Community Justice Alternatives of Durham Region (CJA Durham) offers alternatives to the traditional legal system.  Our community mediation, restorative justice, and personalized anger management/partner assault programs for youth help Durham residents cope with conflict. Our efforts are designed to reduce violence within the community and at home. We work with Youth Probation Officers to reintegrate diverse youth into the community, minimizing future conflicts with the law. See details below.

These programs and services

  • Contribute toward the prevention of crime
  • Develop safer communities
  • Address social issues and the rehabilitation of offenders, and
  • Promote stronger communication and healthier family well-being

We operate with a staff of 4 employees, 2 administrative volunteers, and over 20 other volunteers and annually handle hundreds of clients in the Durham Region.  Partially funded by the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community & Social Services and various federal and provincial grants, we also rely on donations from local churches, community groups, individuals and businesses and municipal grants to operate efficiently.
